NaOH (100 mL, 5 N) and extracted with chloroform (2×100 mL). The combined organic layer was washed with brine (100 mL) and dried over Na2SO4. The solvent was filtered and evaporated in vacuo to afford the desired product as an off-white solid. Yield: 1.7 g, 59% LCMS [M+H]+ 196.1 The product can be recrystallized from isopropyl alcohol.
